Jesse Vaughn has made a career at the intersection of his hometown, his faith, and his education. Jesse is the older son of Bert and Anne Vaughn. Jesse's father was a well respected Pastor who lead the First Baptist Church of Calhoun for 32 years. Jesse's mother taught in both the Calhoun City Schools and the Gordon County Schools and ended her career as an Assistant Superintendent of the Gordon County Schools. Growing up in a very public household Jesse learned from his parent's example that one should serve the greater good with their professional and personal life.
Upon graduating from Calhoun High School with honors and having served as Student Body President, Jesse attended and graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia twice. Jesse received his undergraduate degree in 1995 with honors. Then Jesse graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 1998. While at Mercer Jesse received the Spright Dowell Outstanding Student Leadership Award, Senator of the Year Award, was President of the Defender/Advocate Society, Chaired the Fiscal Affairs Committee, Orientation Assistant, Chapel Council Member, Baptist Student Union Vice President, was the Wall Street Journal Outstanding Law Student for 1998, and received the Dean's Distinguished Service Award for 1998.
Jesse then was admitted to the bar in 1998 and began practicing at the firm of Ledbetter, Little and Smith. This was a time prior to a statewide Public Defender System. Jesse was appointed as an indigent defender for the Court of Judge Tom Pope. Jesse tried 24 felony jury trials in his first two years of practice winning more than three fourths of the cases he tried and developing a civil practice. While excelling professionally in those early years Jesse took on leadership roles he still hold today. He was elected a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun and he was named and officer and eventually Board Chairman of Habitat for Humanity of Gordon County.
Later, Jesse became an associate of the firm of Coppege & Leman, P.C. He worked at their Dalton office and then even opened an office for them in Calhoun. At the Coppedge firm Jesse worked on high profile cases such as the Tri-State Crematory litigation, the Physicians Reliance Corporation litigation and represented many local individuals and companies such as Carpets of Dalton, the Dalton High School Cheerleading coaches and others. During this time Jesse also served on many boards such as the Voluntary Action Center board and the board of the Anne Jones Memorial Preschool at First Baptist.
Jesse then began the firm that today is known as Vaughn & Clements, P.C. in 2006. Showing his belief in and love for his hometown of Calhoun, Jesse purchased and old run down building in downtown and transformed it into a beautiful office building in the heart of Calhoun. His practice has continued to grow and he is proud to maintain his high level of professional success and service to others. Jesse has been Gordon County's representative on the Limestone Valley R.D. & C. Board, he has served on the Board of Directors at the Chamber of Commerce where he worked tirelessly with Debra Owens and Larry Vickery to found the Community and Government Affairs Committee. He remains the Chair of Habitat with over a dozen homes built in Gordon County under his supervision. He also continues to serve as a Deacon at First Baptist as well as a Sunday school teacher and a Royal Ambassador's teacher to first and second grade boys. Jesse's practice continues to flourish with corporate clients such as North Georgia National Bank, M&S Logistics, American Berber, American Carpet Group, Woolshire Carpet, The Flipper McDaniel Companies, Dalton Wholesale Floors, Brian's Auto Sales, United Weavers, and Emery Park Carpet , but much of Jesse's practice still focuses on representing the people of Calhoun, Gordon County and the state of Georgia in all state and Federal courts in Georgia.
